Ljubljana, June 22, 2024, from 11 AM to 8 PM – The continuation of last year’s successful edition of the Slovenian Cider Day event is coming, now transformed into the Cider and Cheese Festival. The event will take place on Saturday, June 22, along the riverside near Pogačarjev trg in Ljubljana, and will be dedicated to showcasing Slovenia’s traditional apple-based beverage and premium cheeses.
The main focus of the festival will be Slovenian cider (apple wine) producers from all over the country, offering a wide array of ciders in different styles for tasting. Foreign ciders will also be available.
You’ll be able to meet the following providers: Pivomat, Malner Cider, Repovž, Medikart, Karlovček, Slodar, as well as ciderclub.si and NORD with French ciders.
The festival will also feature unique cheeses from Golden Ring Cheese, sheep cheeses from the Urban farm, and cheeses paired with dry-aged beef from Gorenc Delikatessen.
PROMOTING LOCAL PRODUCTS
Ciders and cheeses have long been an important part of various cultural traditions worldwide. They naturally complement each other and create an exciting culinary experience, making the event extremely valuable for promoting local products. At the same time, it connects us with the international culinary community.
INNOVATION IN SLOVENIAN CHEESES
Slovenian cheesemaking boasts a rich tradition and a variety of cheese products that reflect the diversity of the Slovenian countryside. Despite its modest size, Slovenia can proudly showcase premium cheeses that have gained recognition both at home and abroad. One of them is Golden Ring Cheese, aged in underground spaces beneath Sinji vrh in abandoned water tanks, where high humidity and low temperatures are constant. Sheep cheeses will be available for tasting from the Urban farm in Gabrijele near Krmelj. These are an excellent choice for those who prefer more pungent and stronger flavors. Gorenc Delikatessen from Šmarješke Toplice will offer a perfect and unique combination of cheese and dry-aged beef aged for over 1,000 days. Their cheeses are aged for at least 7 months in maturation rooms alongside dry-aged beef.
Attendance at the event is free. In case of bad weather, the event will be canceled.
