OUR STORY

The Malner cider brand was created by Maja and Boštjan Pečar, a brother and sister team devoted to continuing the family's fruit-growing tradition on the outskirts of the Brkini region.

As explorers at heart, we are constantly seeking the most creative possibilities offered by apples. With confidence in the untapped potential of Slovenian fruit growing, we crafted our own Slovenian craft cider.

We offer this old, yet unique beverage in its finest form.

THE HISTORY OF THE FAMILY ORCHARD

In 1989, our parents Neda and Branko Pečar planted their first apple trees. All three of us children, along with our oldest sister Alenka, quickly became accustomed to working in the orchard. A significant part of our childhood and youth was spent among the apple trees, instilling in us a deep respect for nature and all it provides.

We proudly continue this tradition into the next generation, as in 2019 we took over the orchards and passionately expanded the offerings with new products.

The name "Malner cider" derives from the old name of our homestead, "Pri Malnerjevih," which honourably connects us to its farming tradition, that we are continuing today.

With over 30 years of experience in fruit growing, we have established unquestionable knowledge and skills in apple cultivation.

We oversee the entire process, from planting and maintenance to harvesting ripe fruit. This allows us to ensure the highest quality of fruit, which is crucial for our cider.

Situated at the intersection of the Mediterranean and Brkini Hills, where cold nights and hot days provide our apples with unique conditions for achieving high aromatic content, sugars, and a rich flavor.

This enables us to dedicate the utmost care and attention to every step, from selecting the apple varieties we grow to manual harvesting and processing into cider.

Together, these special features create Malner cider, a globally acclaimed, authenthic, refreshing drink that reflects the rich tradition of our family orchard.

INTERNATIONAL RECOGNITION OF SLOVENIAN QUALITY

For our semi-sweet cider, Auster, we received the gold award at the Great Lakes International Cider and Perry Competition 2023 (GLINTCAP) and the bronze award at CiderWorld Frankfurt 2023.

International awards are crucial for Slovenian ciders, as they contribute to recognition in foreign markets and establish Slovenia on the global map of top-tier cider producers.

WHAT IS CIDER?

It is the international term for a fermented alcoholic beverage made from apple juice. It represents a unique category of drink with a rich variety of styles and flavors, as extensive as beer, wine, rum, or whiskey.
